AMAGANSETT DUNES MODERN COTTAGE
The project is located in the Dunes area of Amagansett known for its protected sand dunes amid tall grasses and pine forests. The existing community is within walking distance to the ocean beaches and consists of small lots filled with “surf shacks” most of which are modern in style. The design for this home transforms the existing single-story ranch house into a two-story modern cottage with modern lines and finishes. The young family wanted a “modern surf shack” but needed more space to accommodate the growing family. We wanted to keep the existing foundation and footprint the same in order to minimize environmental damage to the protected area. RRL Architecture and Design came up with a 2-story loft solution that addressed the spatial needs of the client. Due to the small size of the house, we focused on creating a simple design with a Scandinavian feel that is all about the details.
