Pool House

RRL Design and Architecture was commissioned to design a pool house for a 500-acre ranch in Mississippi. The main house was built Ranch Style in the 1970s, so the new pool house needed to be a modern architectural expression that blended with the 1970s style of the house due to their close proximity. The architect took inspiration in the architecture of John Lautner, a prominent architect in Los Angeles known for his masterpieces built in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The final result is a single-sloped sculptural and angular wood roof structure supported by freestanding wood columns and a separate slanted glass enclosure that heightens the design of the roof. The layout allows for an enclosed living area, covered terrace and open-air fire pit. The views of the vast landscape as well as sun orientation were taken into consideration while developing the design.
